Global Warming

Responsible website owners today cannot have a site dealing with conserving the world's wild species without mentioning
global warming. It is the single greatest threat to the survival of species that mankind has ever seen.
Southern species are moving north, both on land and in the sea, displacing native species. Permafrost is disappearing in the
Arctic, leading to millions of trees dying over the winter. Warmer winter temperatures mean no die-off of the pine beetle, a
small creature decimating forests around the globe. There are hundreds of examples.
Global warming, for those who are paying attention, is absolutely terrifying.
There is no facet of life for man or beast that is not affected by increased temperatures. Whether you believe it is man made or simply a
natural cycle that appears every few thousand years, the fact remains that the earth is warming up dramatically.
The polar areas are suffering the fastest consequences of warmer temperatures. Glaciers are melting, ice shelves are breaking away
and sea levels around the world are rising as a result. For years, it was acknowledged that the highest numbers of endangered
animals lived in the disappearing rainforests of the tropical zones. Now arctic animals such as polar bears are in trouble, with
deaths by drowning, cannibalism and starvation on the increase.
No matter where you live, global warming is affecting you. Learn how you can help slow it down, for the sake of all living
creatures on earth.

*The predicted effects of global warming on the
environment and for human life are numerous and varied. It is generally difficult to attribute specific natural phenomena to long-term causes,
but some effects of recent climate change may already be occurring. Rising sea levels, glacier retreat, and altered patterns of agriculture are
cited as direct consequences, but predictions for secondary and regional effects include extreme weather events, an expansion of tropical
diseases, and drastic economic impact. Concerns have led to political activism advocating proposals to mitigate, eliminate, or adapt to it. The
2007 fourth assessment report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) includes a summary of the expected effects.

*Alaska Conservation Solutions has an
informative and compelling presentation on global warming, with the emphasis on wildlife. This presentation is available in PowerPoint to anyone
who can use it. While the information concerns Alaska, it is applicable to global issues on climate change. The presentation can be obtained free
of charge at www.alaskaconservationsolutions.com/acs/presentations.html
*Green Energy TV is an Online Television Channel
that is dedicated to airing Green/Alternative/Renewable Energy videos for millions of viewers around the world to see. Green Energy TV is
passionate about sharing innovative ideas to help educate individuals and organizations of all sizes to use cleaner alternatives in their every
day environment. It is a virtual community that offers free educational videos on these innovations and on topics like, "What is
Geothermal Energy?", the biodiesel revolution, and much more. Browse the online information sheets and video library, or upload a video
of your own about your use, innovations, or support of green energy. www.greenenergytv.com
*Climate change can be difficult to explain, particularly
to children. National Wildlife Federation has recently launched Climate Classroom, a website designed to help educators, parents
and others become better informed so they can discuss global warming with kids in age-appropriate ways. Visuals, instructional guidelines,
helpful resources links, Q&A from kids and realistic suggestions for fighting global warming available at www.climateclassroom.org
*EarthLab has launched a web site designed to help people become knowledgeable and active about the climate crisis, and help them
discover simple steps to make a difference. Evaluate your personal impact on the Earth using their Carbon and Lifestyle
calculator, which allows you to save and track your improvements over time. www.earthlab.com
